ISHAKA -- A security guard was brutally murdered last night in Ishaka Town, Bushenyi district after unknown assailants attacked him while on duty.

Police arrived at the scene today morning July. 28 and found the deceased lying on the ground with both his hands and legs tightly tied behind his back and a cloth [jacket] wrapped all around his face. They surmised that he was suffocated to death.

The deceased has been identified as Mehebwa Godfrey from Kyamamari in Kyamuhunga subcounty.

Godfrey, who was on duty at Ishaka SACCO along Basajja Road [a few meters from Ishaka Police Station], worked for Agro-Security, a security company based in Butare town in Kyamuhunga.

Godfrey was working alone when the attack happened.

Police says the deceased was most likely not killed in an attempted robbery because nothing as taken. His gun was also left behind.

The motive the attackers had to brutally kill Godfrey is still unknown. Police is investigating the case for a possible cause and to bring the assailants into custody.

We've been told a sniffer dog was brought to the scene but identified nothing. The murderers covered their tracks.

Godfrey's body has been moved to kampala international university teaching hospital for post-mortem.

This is a growing story. Check again for updates.
