At least 15 students of Makerere University have this morning been suspended for allegedly damaging the university property.

The development follows a protest on the evening of October 18, 2016 where the resident students incited violence and invaded the University Hall’s Kitchen damaging property worth millions of shillings.

They were protesting against what they termed as poor meals.

The violent students destroyed kitchen materials including chairs, dining tables and doors, a fridge, cups and plates.

The students are also alleged to have caused a loss of 200 forks from the serving center contrary to 8(9) (b) (iii) and (viii) and section 9(1) (a), 9(3) of the Makerere university students regulations, 2015.

The suspended students are required to leave the university premises by 5:00pm today, while their case will be presented to the university disciplinary committee on a certain date.

They claim the food served by outside catering service providers who were hired by the university is of poor quality, and barely satisfies them.

They include; Tworo Aziz, Taremwa Solomon, Kayiira Francis, Nayebare Donart, Ayesiga Justus, Kigenyi James, Ashabahebwa Rogers, and Abit May Francis.

Others are, Ndugwa Fahad, Mugume Joseph, Mambule Timothy, Wabugoya Gerald, Wanyera Simon, Kigula Samuel, and Njalira Kssim Rashid.

They were suspended in accordance with section 6(1)(d) of the Makerere University students regulations 2015.
