We last heard from Young Cardamom & HAB, the two halves of an increasingly popular rap duo, last year when they released their popular debut single "Kanda (Chap Chap)" and it's hilarious video. They are now back with their fantastic debut 6-track EP titled “Sidda Mukyaalo” which is Luganda for “I’m not going back to the village”, a phrase many of us know and have said.

With Young Cardamom being a 3rd generation Asian Ugandan and HAB identifying as a Nubian who is partly Munyoro, "Sidda Mukyaalo" celebrates Kampala and Uganda at large, while maintaining the foreign influences with raps in at least 6 languages including English, Hindi, Kiswahili, Luganda, Runyoro and Nubi.
The sound is a mixture of Hip-Hop and Afrobeat mainly, with most of the production being handled by Izaya. The duo skillfully addresses issues ranging from social injustices like corruption on the song “Obulamu”, human trafficking and racial divides on “Chotti Bahu”, and neo-colonialism/post-colonial mentality on “Askari”. Serious issues have never sounded so good!
Their music brings their good sense of humor to the forefront in songs such as “Wabula Naawe”, with the EP maintaining an upbeat mood even as they delve into the more serious topics. This also manifests in their fashion.
In short, Young Cardamom & HAB’s Sidda Mukyaalo has cemented their position as one of the most exciting things to happen to Ugandan music in some time.
