The inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura’s troubles are just starting after two victims of the police brutality in the public caning saga decided to drag him to court.
The two men, Muhereza and Michael Nyesiga have sued Kayihura alongside seven police officers including James Ruhweza, the Kampala North Regional Police boss, Andrew Kaggwa, Kampala South Regional boss, Samuel Bamuzibire the Kampala Metropolitan Field Force unit Commander, Geoffrey Kahebwa , the Kampala Central Police Station Commander Aaron Baguma , Jonathan Baroza, the Personal Assistant to IGP Kayihura and a one Daniel Tandeka seeking compensation of 50 million Shillings.

Muhereza and Nyesiga were part of several people brutally caned by police officers last week when they lined up the road to cheer Dr. Kizza Besigye following his release from Luzira maximum prison where he had spent over two months on remand for treason.

The petitioners argue that the action by the said officers violated their constitutional right to freedom and subjected them to inhumane treatment. They also claim that during the incident, Police confiscated and damaged their bicycle and motorcycle respectively thereby violating their right to work and there seek compensation for loss of work.
The two victims are also seeking a court declaration that the said police commanders are unfit to be in the Uganda Police Force and should be dismissed with disgrace.
court is yet to summon the officers.
