Babu Tale, manager to Tanzanian superstar, Diamond Platnumz, has been arrested after failing to pay Sh11 million (TSh250 million) as it was ordered by the court after he was found guilty of copyright infringement.
Babu was arraigned in court on Tuesday but the registrar of the court was not present so he was remanded until Wednesday next week.
Babu is the owner of Tip Top entertainment that was dragged to court in February 2016 by motivational speaker, Sheikh Mbonde, of using his recorded religious clips for commercial purposes without the consent of the Sheikh.
The religious leader says his work was to be used for domestic purposes but money was made, breaching the contract.
The Court then ruled that Tip Top which is co-owned by Tale and his brother had violated terms of the agreement and awarded the Sheikh with TSh250 million for compensation.
It was resolved that in case they failed to pay, the company’s property would be auctioned or its directors would be jailed and at the time of Babu Tale’s arrest, he had not yet paid Sheikh Mbonde.
