Another body of a young lady believed to have been murdered has been recovered by Police in Katabi Town Council in Entebbe Municipality. The deceased is Harriet Nantongo, a resident Kabale A in Katabi Town Council.
Her decomposing body was found in an isolated area this morning, six days since she was reported missing. The police spokesperson, Asan Kasingye confirmed the recovery of Nantongo's body.
"Yes, we have a body of Harriet Nantongo, the wife of Noah Musumba," Kasingye told Uganda Radio Network. Scene of crime officers have already visited the scene to collect evidence.
A source that has been at the scene told Howwe.biz that there were signs of sexual assault but said there was need for postmortem to confirm.
"We suspect that she was murdered in the same style as the other women. Right now we cannot tell when she was murdered until we get the postmortem report," the source told URN on condition of anonymity.
The murder of Nantongo brings to 14, the number of women killed in Entebbe in the last three months. 12 of the women have been confirmed to have been sexually assaulted before they were killed in a similar manner.
More than 17 suspects including a prominent businessman have since been arrested in connection to the murders. While some have been released on police bond, 6 of them are still in police custody.
This morning, women under Akina mama wa Africa called on the government to declare a national day of mourning and formulate a committee to support the families of the departed.
These want the President who has been silent on the matter to speak up and immediately issue a statement.
“There will be a vigil in remembrance of our beloved mothers and sisters on Thursday at the Uganda Museum Dress code: Black” they communicated.
