Uganda police force has trashed social media reports that over ten people have died in a riot sparked by youths in Yumbe town.

Uganda police force has trashed social media reports that over ten people have died in a riot sparked by youths in Yumbe town.  

Police however says only two people were injured and have been rushed to the hospital. 

Also unlike reports that the riots were by youths who wanted NGOs to leave their area, police spokesperson Emilian Kayima told Howwe. Biz that the riot was caused by boda boda riders who were trying to frustrated the work of Uganda Revenue Authority enforcement officers who are cracking down on them.

Kayima identified the injured people oly as Gaddafi and Jamal. 

"This riot was sparked off by a previous operation carried out by URA that aimed at cracking down on boda boda that were doing business without paying taxes to have registration number plates on their bikes" Kayima said. 

The rioters burnt two motor vehicles and one motorcycle.  The cars belonged to an NGO called Danish Church Aid. Police says it has picked up a number of suspects in connection with the incident. And that the situation is now back to normal as police continues to engage the boda boda industry and community at large.
