Uganda Police has in custody four government employees in connection to the fire that gutted a production office at Sironko District headquarters.

Suwed Manshur, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson says they are yet to establish the cause of the fire, which broke out in the production office at around 12:48am on Sunday, destroying documents, chairs, tables, generator, fridge and filing cabinets among other items.

The spokesperson identified one of the suspects as Dr. Patrick Okori, the Sironko District Production Officer, but declined to name the others. However, sources at the district say the Assistant production officer, an office attendant and secretary are part of the investigation.

Manshur says the suspects were picked up to help police investigations into the incident. "They are going to record statements with police. There is some information police needs from them," he explained.

Another source at the police however said the suspects will remain in custody until Fisheries, Entomologist and Commercial officers also show up for questioning.   According to the source, the above mentioned officers keep their documents and accountability in the production office meaning they were all destroyed by the fire. The Fisheries has allegedly been feuding with the production officer.

The Sironko District Chief Administrative Officer, Francis Andrew Oluka told police to carry out investigations and get to the bottom of the matter.
