Police in Kabale has mounted a hunt for assailants who shot and injured a businessman and his wife in Kabale leaving them for death.
Francis Aryarugamu and his wife Zamu Kenkoonzi, both residents of Bataka cell, Mwanjari ward southern Division, Kabale municipality were last night rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.
An eye witness explains that gunmen shot the couple at around 8:40pm on Tuesday evening while walking to their home in Mwanjari trading center shortly after closing their Soda Depot in Kabale Central Market.
The shooters riding a motorcycle with unclear number plates grabbed a black polythene bag from Kenkoonzi. The polythen bag contained just water melon which they took off with, thinking it was money.
According to Ely Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, the couple was transferred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital from Kabale Regional referral Hospital around midnight with Aryarugamu nursing a gunshot in the stomach as the bullet penetrated through the back while Kenkoonzi was shot from the back injuring her right breast.
“As I talk, we are on ground to establish who the shooters are because they are said to have been moving on a motorcycle. I want to call upon anybody who may have information that can lead us to these perpetrators to please volunteer such information so that they are brought to book and charged accordingly” Maate said.
