More from that R Kelly interview now where things got very heated as the singer had his first opportunity to directly address the allegations of sexual abuse made against him.

Denying the claims, he said: "I've done lots of things wrong when it comes to women and I apologise to them," when asked about previous relationships.

Of the surviving R Kelly docuseries, in which several women shared similar stories alleging abuse and controlling behaviour, he said: "They were describing Lucifer, I'm a man, I've made mistakes but I'm not the devil, I'm not a monster."

"They all lying on me," he added.

Prosecutors have charged Kelly with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, involving four alleged victims, three of whom were minors.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and is currently out on bail.

If convicted, he faces three to seven years in prison for each crime.

Prior to an emotional outbust in which he directly addressed the CBS cameras, he said of the abuse claims and negative reports: "I've been buried alive

"But I'm alive."
