On Tuesday this week, musician Wicliff Tugume, aka Ykee Benda, held a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among.
The meeting was initiated by the singer, who is lobbying for his newly acquired school. He wants the Speaker of Parliament to lend a helping hand and also assist in the construction of the boys' dormitory.
"I had a productive conversation earlier this afternoon with Mr. Wyclif Tugume, one of the directors of Golden High School Nsagu. This school provides an integrated creative and performing arts curriculum and offers bursaries to underprivileged students within the Kajjansi community.
Tugume, also known as Ykee Benda, is a chemical engineer and musician who is making a significant difference in his community. During our conversation, I committed to visiting the school and supporting the construction of a boys' dormitory. I would also like to express my gratitude to the team for naming the girls' dormitory after me," read a statement on the Speaker's Twitter handle.
Ykee Benda, through his Twitter account, thanked the Speaker for the meeting and emphasized that she has pledged support to the school.
"It was such an honor to have met you Mama waffe, but an even greater gesture that you offered your motherly arm to our dream and project that’s underway at @GoldenHighSch.
We look forward to your visit and the amazing launch of the girls' dormitory block that we have named after you.
An accountant, a lawyer, an entrepreneur, and the Speaker of Parliament...surely your story is a big inspiration to many of our girls at school.
