The World Music Week (Fête de la Musique) will be celebrated in Uganda and it has been organised by Alliance Franchise.

The event will take place at Ecole Francaise Les Grands Lacs ( French School along Lugogo Bypass) on Saturday, 23rd June and after party will be held at Big Kafunda in Kansanga on the same day.

Entrance to the show is free.

Howwe understands that the event that started in France in 1982 by Jack Lang,  who was a minister of Culture then, and later spread to over 120 countries has been celebrated in Kampala for the past 10 years.

The true spirit of Fete de la Musique rotates around enjoyment and participation in the event on a personal level.

Unlike in Paris where people flood the streets with their instruments and sing with each other, in  Ugandan the public is invited starting 3pm to take part in a traditional instrument making workshop, led by  Albert Ssempeke, a well know instrumentalist, hailing from the Buganda Kingdom before fusing some of his talents and sounds with  UK DJ Simbad  during the afterparty.

Later in the day, rising talents, the lady MCs of Kampala will excite revellers at the main concert which will start at 6pm with children’s performances from the  École Francaise Music Club  and the  Break dance Project Uganda Kids,  who have charmed Kampala audiences with break dance and beat boxing. Rising talents such as  Destiny Nsonga  and the MCs will be accompanied by a live band ‘The Groovetones’  (formerly Undercover Brothers).

The event will also come to life when artists such as  Byg Ben Sukuya  hailing from Mbale,  Nemesis Keya,  Control Posse Kongoloko (DRC)  and  R’Afrika(DRC), Yallah MC, K’Van and Recho Rey take centre stage.

The event show will be climaxed by the main act of the day, One of the Godfathers of London Hip-Hop, Rodney P.

He will perform on the main stage with the artist  Skitz  with a hip hop /dub-step/ reggae fusion.  In the 90s Rodney P, started out in the group London Posse, their 90s hit ‘The Live Up’  resonated with the global phenomenon hip-hop created with artist such as NWA.

We shall keep you posted.
