The African Union heads of state have paid tribute to President Yoweri Museveni for what they termed as his exemplary leadership in efforts to fight the LRA in Central African Republic (CAR) and his Mediation role in the Burundi talks.

This came up during the just concluded 28th ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Union in Adis Ababa, Ethiopia held from 30th to 31st January.

The summit also paid glowing tribute to presidents Uhuru Kenyatta and Pierre Nkurunziza as well as Museveni for their national armies and security forces’ contribution to the stabilization of Somalia.

Meanwhile, a special youth envoy is set to be appointed to give effect to the African demographic Dividend agenda and engage key decision makers in the implementation of a road map with key deliverables, African Union heads of state and government have decided.

Hon. Sam Kuteesa the foreign affairs minister told the press this afternoon that at the summit run under the theme “Harnessing the demographic dividend through investment in the youth,” leaders exchanged views and mad fundamental decisions to achieve the demographic dividend of Africa.

“Heads of State and Government decided that a special Youth Envoy will be appointed to give effect to the African Demographic Dividends Agenda and engage key decision makers in the implementation of a road map with key deliverables and milestones to guide member states and the regional economic communities (RECs) on concrete actions to be undertaken in 2017 and beyond and to commit investing in a better future for young people” Hon. Kutesa explained.

It was also agreed that in every African Union summit in January, there will be a breakfast meeting between the secretary-general and all the African Heads of State, translating the strong commitment of Africa to a very close relationship with UN.
