Calm in Iganga ahead of Tomorrow’s Polls

Residents of Iganga go to the polls tomorrow September 13 to elect their next woman member of parliament.

The race has attracted five candidates including; Brenda Suubi Asinde popularly known as mama Madi, the ruling NRM, candidate, Mariam Nantale Naigaga, Forum for democratic change, and independent candidates, Hajjati Aziza

Kakerewe, Oliva Kwagala, and Asha Babirye a sister to the deceased woman member of parliament Hailat Khauda Magumba.

The seat fell vacant after the death of Hailat Khauda due to pregnancy complications in July this year.

Campaigns ended on Tuesday September 12th with the former FDC party president Kiiza Besigye canvassing votes for the party flag bearer, Naigaga.

Besigye who arrived in the district at around 11 a.m first visited

Iganga main hospital before proceeding to Namungalwe, Nakigo sub counties ahead of a major rally that was held at Iganga main hospital where he addressed thousands of cheering supporters who braved the scorching sun to listen to him.

President Yoweri Museveni, also NRM party chairman was in the area on Monday to campaign for his party flag bearer. He asked voters to choose Asinde for better representation.

The race is tough between the NRM flag bearer Asinde and FDC’s Mariam Nantale.

On Sunday, supporters of the FDC candidate were hacked by unknown people, but there has since not been any other attacks.
