Body of one of the victims of the Sironko mudslide has been recovered. Locals identified the deceased as 9-year-old Jane Namono, a former primary three pupil at Newlife primary school in Bufupa parish in Masaba Sub County.

According to Deogrious Nabugodi, the deceased's uncle, they found dogs eating the deceased's body on Monday afternoon. She is one of the nine people who were still unaccounted for following the August mudslides that claimed one person and displaced hundreds of others.

The body was later laid to rest on Monday evening at her father's home in Kidume village in Bufupa parish. Eunice Nandudu Maku, the Masaba Sub County Female Councilor, says dogs led the community to where Namono's body was found.

She says residents dug through the rubble with machetes and hoes to retrieve the body. Alex Bunga, the Masaba Sub county LC V councilor, says another body is still stuck in the rubble. He says residents tried to retrieve the body in vain, since they are using rudimentary tools.

Meanwhile, UNRA  abandoned search for victims due to persistent rains, fearing there could be another episode of mudslides.
