Ministry of health under its campaign of distribution of mosquito nets to all Ugandan homes has given out 17 million nets to 38 people in 27 districts of the country.

The development was revealed by Dr. Jimmy Opigo, the manager National Malaria Control Programme at ministry of health.

Addressing the press at the Uganda Media Center this morning, Opigo said distribution of nets is one of the strategies by the ministry to prevent malaria which remains the single largest killer disease in Uganda.

This year’s campaign, according to Dr. Opigo is dubbed “Chase malaria sleep under a mosquito net.”

The campaign was launched in February this year in Apach District. After covering 27 districts upcountry, it has today been launched in Kampala and Wakiso.

Dr. Opigo explains that registration of residents to receive mosquito nets in Wakiso district will commence in the second week of December, while distribution will come in the second week of January 2018.

Subsequently, registration of residents in Kampala, who are to benefit from the campaign will commence in the second week of January, while distribution in the second week of February 2018.

“The campaign has so far achieved 95% of its objectives in the areas that have been covered, with a total 23 million bed nets distributed protecting over 44 million people in 109 districts” Opigo explained.
He added that the nets are highly effective and user friendly.
