Sergeant Denis Bataringaya, an operative attached to the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence is in trouble after the Mbarara grade one magistrate, Samuel Twakire issued an arrest warrant against him.

Sergeant Denis Bataringaya, an operative attached to the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence is in trouble after the Mbarara grade one magistrate, Samuel Twakire issued an arrest warrant against him.

Bataringaya is wanted for his role in the acid attack on Mbarara municipal councilor, Amos Katurebe on November 18th, 2017 at Kirembe village in Mbarara Municipality.

During the unfortunate incident, Katurebe sustained serious burns and was rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for treatment before he was moved to Mulago National Referral hospital for further management.  The victim has since lost his ability to talk or walk.
 
The attack came when Mbarara municipality was grappling with cases of land grabbing. Two other people including 22-year-old Emanuel Mbine, a crime preventer in Katojo cell, Nyakayojo division Mbarara municipality and Geoffrey Sali, a resident of Bukoto in Kampala.
  
While Mbine is on the remand and Ssali was sentenced to years in jail on his own plea of guilt, on Wednesday, prosecution led by Anthony Kurigishule, a State Attorney asked court to issue an arrest warrant for Sergeant Bataringaya following his failure to turn up in court for the mention of the case.
The prosecutor told court that their efforts to ensure that the operative appears in court had proved futile. As a result, The Mbarara grade one magistrate, Samuel Twakire issued an arrest warrant for the accused.
