Police in Maya – Katende woke up to the shocking news in the wee hours of Friday morning as they found a nearly subconscious mid-sized young man whining and sobbing in pain all by himself.
A 32-year-old man identified as Kinene Benard, a resident of Katende was beaten by unknown people and dumped in a bush in Kilombe – Nakilebe along Masaka Road. The bricklayers who first saw him as they were going to work at about 6:45 AM said he was very wounded and helpless, when they saw he was too weak, they called the police which took charge of the situation before he was whisked to Nabbingo Medical Centre.
At Nabbingo, Kinene was given aid and he could speak before our reporter caught up with him. Kinene told claims that he was captured on Thursday late evening and beaten. “I was hit with a metallic object at the back of my head, which is when I lost consciousness. I woke up in the bush” Kinene narrated.
On further submission, Kinene disclosed that he is a homosexual, a practice which is abominable in Uganda. He said that he had been trailed for long by unknown people, claiming to have received threats to end his life if he does not leave this practice. This was confirmed by his brother Genza Nehemiah whose life is equally at stake, Genza, seemingly worried, seated beside his hospitalized brother said that his brother has been threatened for a long time. On top of this, the furious trailers have been asking Kinene for his partner, a one David Andrew Lukanga who ran out of the country five years ago in fear because of similar threats.
In 2013, Lukanga and his ‘wife’ Kinene were captured around Lugogo by goons and thrashed but they managed to escape, a few days later Lukanga fled to the States leaving behind his partner, who is now facing the wrath of gay tormentors.
