Parents in Masaka district have shunned a mass immunization exercise organized by district authorities to help stop the fresh measles outbreak in their are.

Now, the Resident District Commissioner Joe Walusimbi has been forced to issue orders for compulsory immunization of all children following the very poor turn up.

According to the district authorities, they had a target of 22, 626 children between the ages of 6 months to 5 years, but only 7,717 turned up.

This angered the RDC who says they have established that many parents were just reluctant to take their children for immunization while others based their rejection on speculative arguments against the safety of the vaccines.

Mr. Walusimbi has instructed all school administrators to ensure that pupils present their immunization cards before accessing their premises to avoid further spread of the virus.
