Richard Ssekyondwa, the Entebbe Municipality Deputy Mayor has called for police and sister security agencies to stop deploying unnecessarily in his area as this is leading to losses in businesses.

Mr. Ssekyondwa also argues that Entebbe road transports tourists from the airport and such deployments scare them into thinking the country is under threat, hence they may not return.

His concerns come days after police was involved in running battles with some residents in the area and journalists that were waiting for the Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi as he returned from US last week.

The mayor says such interruptions lead to business losses as many are forced to close shops for safety, while others lose merchandise to rowdy protesters. He also criticized the usual closure of roads leading to Entebbe, restricting travel of individuals going for their day to day businesses.

Mr. Ssekyondwa says for the two days that roads were closed last week, the municipality lost 12m in taxes while 127 tourists cancelled reservations at Entebbe based hotels.

He now wants government to be considerate in future before taking such drastic measures just to deal with a single politician.
