A warrant of arrest issued by the Anti-Corruption Court against Siraje Bakaleke the former Kampala South Metropolitan Commander; the Uganda police Force says it has not received it.

At the request of Attorney General’s office, Grade One Magistrate Moses Nabende of the Anti-Corruption Court issued a warrant of arrest to the former senior officer for failure to respond to two criminal summons directing him to appear in court over a pending case.

Bakaleke is accused of fraud, abuse of office and kidnap. He faces some of these charges along with other police officers including; Robert Munezero, Innocent Nuwagaba, Robert Ray Asiimwe, Junior Amanya, Kenneth Zirinbtuusa and Babu Gastavas. Other suspects are; Nabeta Samuel Mulowooza the MD Eye Power Engineering and Paul Wanyoto a city lawyer.

The suspects allegedly extorted USD1.5million from two South Korean Nationals identified as Park Seunghoon and Jang Shingu Un who were in the country to buy Gold in early 2018. However, the duo was allegedly arrested by the group at the command of Bakaleke. They two men had gone to meet their lawyer Paul Wanyoto at his located at Acacia Mall. 

Wanyoto has since disappeared, causing suspicion that he had been working with the extortionists. However, Patrick Onyango the Deputy police spokesperson denies knowledge of the warrant of arrest, claiming the Force is yet to receive it.

The whereabouts of Bakaleke remain unknown after he recently alleged that some people wanted him dead. His lawyer Sarah Nakacwa also could not confirm where her client is hiding.

The officer was arrested and relieved of his duties after the scandal hit the public eye.
