Members of the public have been advised to avoid too much excitement which could lead to accidents during the end of year festivities tonight December 31st 2018. They are also not to drink and drive, but rather use public transport in order to avoid accidents and congestion.

The communication was made by SSP Norman Musinga the Kampala metropolitan traffic police commander while issuing traffic guidelines for revelers planning to flood happening places in the city.

According to the guidelines, some of the key areas that will be affected include; Namboole stadium, Kololo stadium, Sheraton, Serena Hotels and Hotel Africana, Munyonyo, Lubiri, Christ the King church, Bukalango and All Saints Nakasero among others.

SSP Musinga warns that teraffic ciongestion is expected in the above mentioned areas and that acts of lawlessness are expected to be on a rise too, which may in turn be a threat to the general public.

For smooth flow of traffic, police has issued motorists with stickers which will help them access Sheraton Hotel through Ternan Avenue. Motorists will not be allowed to park at Nile Avenue, Speke Road, Ternan Avenue, Sezibwa Road, Kintu Road, UBC Roundabout and High Court Roundabout. 

“Any motor vehicle abandoned around these places will be towed to IOV Naguru at owner’s risk and expense” Musinga indicates.

There will also be restricted access to Kololo ceremonial grounds, Namboole National Stadium and Lubiri. Police also plans to put some cut off points at Lumumba Avenue, Ternan Avenue, Nile Avenue, Square Road, and Kintu-Sezibwa junction.

“Traffic police will be deployed to ensure the smooth that there is a smooth flow in these areas. Motorists are advised to avoid being overtaken by excitement during this period but follow the traffic guidelines to avoid inconvenience” he added.

According to Musinga, the general public is encouraged to use public transport to reduce on congestion.
