Officers at Fort Portal Central Police Station in Kabarole district have in custody Pius Tumuhimbise, a Uganda People's Defense Forces-UPDF soldier for allegedly shooting his colleague and two civilians while drunk. 

According to Lydia Tumushabe, the Rwenzori Region Police Spokesperson, Tumuhimbise is in trouble for shooting Sergeant Kenneth Mugisha, a soldier attached to Muhoti Barracks, Vincent Tuhaise and Kenneth Tafuga, both residents of Kyamukerege.  
 
The incident happened at 4:29am on Wednesday morning in Kyamukerege Village in Nyabukara Ward in West Division of Fort Portal municipality.

Tumushabe says that Mugisha was rushed to Muhooti Army Health Center III after sustaining head injuries while the civilians were taken to Virika Hospital in Fort Portal with gunshot wounds on the leg and buttocks respectively.

According to eyewitness accounts, trouble started when Mugisha tried to disarm Tumuhimbise when he became drunk, but the latter reportedly opened fire injured the trio.
 
The soldier was picked up together with Joseph Biryomumaisho, a casual labourer he was with and a case of attempted murder has been opened against the soldier.
