Uganda police force has in custody Vivian Serwanjja a wife to NBS news Anchor Solomon Sserwanjja and four gentlemen said to be BBC reporters on charges of illegal.possession of classified drugs.

Vivian, a senior communication officer at the Ministry of Health was arrested after police got a tip that she was allegedly selling government drugs. Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson told the press in Kampala on Thursday that they were tipped off about three gentlemen who were waiting to buy drugs on the blavk market in Makindye.

Detectives then swung into action and arrested the trio identified as Godfrey Badebye, Shafiq Kisame and Rashid Kawesa. Accoeding to Onyango, the suspects confesses to having been waiting for the seller. Vivian and Kassimu Muhammed were arrested later. Onyango further revealed that Mr. Sserwanjja was called to help officers with a search of his house which had already been cordoned off but never showed up.

This morning, police searched the house in the presence of Vivian and other relatives and according to the spokesperson, they recovered 14 boxes of Lumefantine tablets, vaccines for Hepatitis B and other drugs labeled with government seals.

"Mrs. Sserwanjja had been brought to police to record a statememt and detained. We are also looking for Mr. Sserwanjja to help us investigate how government drugs ended up in his house" Onyango added.

However, in a spin of events, NBS claims Mr. Sserwanjja and the four gentlemen were investigating the illegal sell of government drugs. The media house adds that the four gentlemen include reporters, a cameraman and driver for the BBC.

It remains unclear how the drugs ended up at Sserwanjja's house and according to both police and MBS, his whereabouts remain unknown.

The suspects' file is set to be sent to the state attorney for perusal and advice on how to proceed.
