Interdicted Arua officers charged with abuse of office, conspiracy to defraud

Interdicted former Town Clerk of Arua Municipal Council and Arua Municipality Principal Treasurer have been charged with abuse of office, diversion of public resources and conspiracy to defraud.

Interdicted former Town Clerk of Arua Municipal Council and Arua Municipality Principal Treasurer have been charged with abuse of office, diversion of public resources and conspiracy to defraud.

The two officials charged by State Prosecutor, Alice Kyomuhangi are; Mr. Kasajja Jamirlu Kairu former town clerk and Erejo Kamil Rajab the Principal Treasurer.
Mr. Kasajja Mamirlu Kairu is currently the Town Clerk Kapchorwa Municipal Council.

The charges were preferred on the two officials on Wednesday by the Grade One Magistrate of the Anti-Corruption Unit Court in at Kololo in Kampala by Mr Moses Nabendo. 

According to the charge sheet, Kasajja Jamirlu Kairu and Erejo  Kamil Rajab and others still at large, during financial year 2017/2018, at Arua Municipal Council in Arua District, being employees in the Council as Town Clerk and Principal Treasurer respectively, abused the authority of their respective offices and carried out an arbitrary act prejudicial to the interest of their employer by wittingly processing and converted Shs.436,447,000 meant for road works to pay individual  officers’ allowances.

The prosecutor said that investigations are on-going to find out the details of the offences brought against the 2 public officials.

The accused applied for a bail and each suspect was required by the Court to pay Shs.35 million Cash and their sureties were bonded for Shs.5oo million not in cash. 

The Head of the Anti-corruption Monitoring Unit in State House, Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema, last week caused the arrest of six suspects from Arua District over allegations of corruption.
