Uganda Breweries Limited has challenged female university graduates and undergraduates to take up roles in male dominated fields.

In commemoration of Women’s day, UBL invited 30 female university graduates with a background in science technology, engineering and math to visit the brewery in Port Bell to discuss ways of bridging the gender diversity gap in our science and technology departments.

The female university graduated were also taken on a tour of brewery and its spirits plant International Distillers Uganda.

Speaking during the visit, Leaticia Mukakibibi, the head of governance at UBL said that it is high time that women stood up and become self-reliant by taking up jobs that are considered to be for men alone instead of depending on their partners for survival.

She added that it is unfortunate that most women in the country are afraid to take up male dominated jobs as they cannot stand the pressure of working with men. She noted that for instance, in functions like Technical Operators and the Technical brewers, there are no females.

Uganda Breweries Limited has signed up for the UN Gender equality Seal, which seeks to test their processes to certify that gender inclusion is a key priority.

The brewery” s ambition is to have 35% of their Senior management staff roles up filled by females by 2020, with a further increase to 40% by 2025.
