The Uganda Medical Association (UMA) on Sunday announced a new president, Nakku Joloba to replace embattled former leader Dr. Samuel Oledo.

The announcement followed a protracted Extraordinary General Meeting that lasted hours, hence voting Nakku as the new President.

Members had previously started collecting signatures for a petition to allow them to call for an extraordinary general meeting to discuss the matter, as the association constitution stipulates.

According to Luswata Herbert, the UMA secretary General, Toledo was thrown out by members for flouting articles 3 and 7 of their constitution. He is accused of misconduct and abuse of office.

Luswata said the body will convene a press briefing on Monday to explain in detail why Oledo was impeached.

However, on Monday morning, UMA officials were summoned to appear before the High Court over a petition by Oledo to block his impeachment.

Speaking outside court, Nakku stated that UMA received summons on Friday last week  from the High Court over a petition filed by their colleague. Nakku explained that UMA and not individuals made the decision to oust Oledo.

Oledo landed in hot sauce after he teamed up with other medical interns to publicly endorse President Yoweri Museveni for another term come 2026 during a Youth Symposium held at the Kololo ceremonial grounds recently.

Oledo is yet to comment on the development  as he remains unreachable.
