When Prof Sandy Stevens Tickodri-Togboa and his Makerere University engineering students first burst into the Ugandan innovation limelight with their Kiira Motors cars a few years ago, with President Yoweri Museveni being driven in one of them, Ugandans were naturally elated.
Fast forward, Kiira Motors have slowly but surely marked their place in the Uganda market with their latest success story when they were the major transport providers of all guests at recently concluded 27th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) which took place from 3 to 6 January 2024 in Kampala Uganda.
Thirty-three Speakers and Presiding Officers from more than 25 Commonwealth Parliaments were hosted by the Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Rt Hon. Anita Annet Among and the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa.
During their conference, the most highlighted and notable experience was the fun filled moments the speakers enjoyed as they were being cruised across Kampala in the famous Kiira Motors buses. The speakers and all dignitaries clearly couldn’t hide their excitement and fun the state of art Kiira motors buses gave them.

The conference aimed to strengthen parliamentary institutions by bringing together Speakers and Presiding Officers from across the Commonwealth. It also focused on the topics of the environment and climate change, diverse and inclusive Parliaments, security for Parliaments and the role of Speakers and Presiding Officers. The conference was an opportunity to share best practices on Parliamentarians as effective legislators and representatives.
