A team of presidential candidate John Patrick Amama Mbabazi lawyers have arrived at the Supreme Court in Kampala six minutes late, to file in a petition against the February 18th presidential election.

Led by Severino Twinobusingye, the legal team arrived at 05:06 PM and said they had come to present a petition of behalf of Mbabazi against Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the first respondent, the Electoral Commission and the Attorney General.

Upon arrival, they were asked to pay a sum of 1 million Uganda shillings which they readily paid, and their petition was filed.

However, their FDC counterparts were unable to file their petition, as the party candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye remains locked up at his home in Kasangati.

Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu told journalists this evening, that they were unable to file in their petition today, but would communicate their next move, by 11:00am tomorrow.

The constitution allows candidates to file a petition against election results within a period of 10 days, which have elapsed today, from the time President Museveni was announced winner.

The Electoral Commission declared President Museveni winner of the election with at least 60% of the votes cast, against Dr Besigye's 35%. But Besigye says there was massive rigging during the exercise.

The petition was received by supreme court registrar Tom Chemutai
