Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has dragged local daily, The Red Pepper to Court for defamation.

Lukwago through his lawyers of Lukwago & Co. Advocates claims to have been defamed by an article in today’s issue of the Red pepper alleging that he is conniving with Gen. Salim Saleh, to bring Dr. Kiiza Besigye down.

“It is well within your knowledge that your newspaper, in its edition of today 22nd of September 2016, published a false and defamatory statement against our client on the front page cover headed ‘Saleh Builds Shs. 3BN house for Lukwago; Lord Mayor vacates Wakaliga to Pave way for a new playboy-like mansion” part of the letter reads.

The letter addressed to the Red pepper Editor in chief also indicates that their publications were false, malicious, defamatory and were intended to malign and tarnish Lukwago’s reputation and political career and generally subject him to public ridicule and odium.

His lawyers also indicate that the public could after reading the article understand Lukwago as a corrupt and unprincipled political leader, untrustworthy and dishonest, not fit to be the lord mayor.

“In the premises, you are required to forthwith retract the said fallacious and malicious publication in your newspaper and in the same way high light it as you published that defamatory story and pay damages of ug.Shs. 3,000,000,000 (Three Billion) together with Ug. Shs. 3,000,000 (three million shillings) as our legal fees within a period of 4 (four) days from the date hereof, lest we have recourse to litigation at your own cost and detriment.
