Bunyangabu Campaigns: Besigye, Lumumba Join Party

Dr. Kizza Besigye and Justine Lumumba are in Bunyangabu district to rally support for their respective party candidates ahead of the elections on Thursday.

Former Forum for Democratic Change president Dr. Kizza Besigye, and the National Resistance Movement party Secretary General, Justine Lumumba are in Bunyangabu district to rally support for their respective party candidates ahead of the elections on Thursday.

Today  Tuesday, is the last day for the campaigns, which are scheduled to close at 6pm. Besigye will traverse the district and address rallies in Kabonero, Rwimi, Kibito, Katebwa, Kisomoro and Rubona Sub Counties.

The FDC party candidates are Silver Tweyongire who is contesting for Bunyangabu LC V Chairperson's seat and Dorothy Nyakaisiki for the Woman MP seat.

The Kabarole District FDC Secretary General Robert Mutunzi, says he is confident their candidates will emerge winners. He says the Electoral Commission should be impartial and conduct a free and fair election.

The NRM Party Communications Officer Rogers Mulindwa, , says Lumumba will represent President Museveni, the NRM party chairperson at the campaign rallies because he is out of the country attending the United Nations General Assembly.

The NRM party candidates are Peace Mutuzo, the State Minister for Gender and Culture who is contesting for the Woman MP seat and the LC V Candidate is James Ategeka Mugarama.

Mutuuzo says that she has taken advantage of the party's popularity in the district to gain support for her victory. She also says that she recruited hundreds of volunteers in every part of the district to mobilize her voters.

She however, says that if the president had joined the campaigns, it could have energized the voters. Valley Kanzira, the Acting Registrar Bunyangabu District, says they will dispatch the voting materials on starting on Wednesday morning especially to hard to reach areas such as Katebwa, Kiyombya and Kabonero Sub Counties.

Kanzira says registrars from the neighboring districts of Kyenjojo, Ntoroko, Kamwenge, Ibanda, Kasese, and Kyegegwa will beef up staff from his office to ensure smooth polls. The Elections will also be conducted Namisindwa, Pakwach, Butebo and Kyotera districts.
