Over the years, Kampala residents and those in her surrounding areas have lost lives and properties to commuter taxi thieves who target them especially in the evening as they leave work.

Taxi drivers collude with thieves who pretend to be customers, only for them to rob passengers after reaching dark corners. Now, Police has in custody Aziz Sekimuli a driver of commuter taxi Reg. No. UAW 773S which has been robbing passengers around Makerere routes.

Sekimuli was arrested and interrogated on allegations of being part of a big group of thieves who steal from unsuspecting passengers in taxis.
He was taken to Kikoni 'B' police station after a passenger identified as James Habarulema reported a theft case of his one million shillings by occupants in the above mentioned taxi.
 
After a few hours on the hunt, police intercepted the taxi along Sir Appollo Kaggwa Road Makerere. While its occupants escaped, Sekimuli the driver was apprehended and confessed to having attempted to steal money from Habarulema.

Police in Kampala has in a period of 8 months been able to intercept 48 taxis basing on complaints reported by victims of simple robbery around Kampala Metropolitan Area and 21 suspects have since been arraigned before courts of law and remanded in several government prisons.
