Like an English saying goes, “You eat where you worketh” Muko Sub County Chief Jered Muhwezi and Councilor Pastori Twinomuhangi are being accused of stealing and feeding on inputs that were given to farmers through operation wealth creation.

The development comes after the disappearance of bags of Irish potato seeds which were distributed to farmers in Rubanda district on April 13. Muko Sub County received a share of 700 out of 2,400 bags of seeds for distribution to farmers whose gardens were destroyed by floods in 2017.

But, about 142 locals from villages of Rwamahano, Rwaburindi, Kiruruma, Katembe, Bijeje, Habuhinga Nyarurambi, Kyakara and Nfasha in Muko Sub County claim that Twinomuhangi and Muhwezi misappropriated their share.

The evidently angry farmers say they were advised by the duo to sign documents acknowledging receipt of the seeds. They add that they were then advised to pick their share at a later date as sacks of Irish potato seeds were still being sorted.

One of the would-be beneficiaries Gilbert Mugisha says that to their dismay, they were sprayed with teargas when they went to Muko Sub County headquarters for their share.

However, while Twinomuhangi declined to comment on the matter, but the Muko sub-county Chief Muhwezi, admits that the complainants were registered, but did not benefit because potatoes seeds were not enough. He did not divulge details into the distribution.

Kenneth Jogo Biryabarema Rubanda District Chairman, promised to follow up the matter, in order to prove whether the potato seeds were truly diverted, so that Twinomuhangi and Muhwezi are apprehended.
