Chairman Justice Mugenyi byabakama has revealed that all elections will take place between January 10th to 8th February 2021. The development was announced during the launch of Electoral roadmap for 2020/21 general election at hotel Africana this morning.

Uganda will go to polls in 2021 to elect at least 444 mps, over 4,000 district leaders in 141 districts, 1,400 leaders in 80 municipalities, over 30,000 leaders in 2,000 sub counties, among others. In total over 1.5million leaders will be elected in local government right from the parish level. Uganda will have 9,500 parishes, 65,200 villages, 35,000 polling stations and 19,400,000 registered voters by 2021.

According to Justice Byabakama, the election is expected to cost 868 billion shillings from the about 500 billion shillings in 2015/16. This is because of the rise in numbers as shown above.

The prime minister, also the chief guest at today’s launch, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda congratulated the EC on the timeline release of the roadmap as political activists and candidates will not have any excuse in as far as delays go.

He added that the timely launch elevates Uganda’s good standing in the community of democratic governance. It shows that Uganda is independently organizing credible elections.

“I call upon all political parties to organize themselves in line with this road map. On behalf of the government of Uganda, I assure you of our commitment to provide funds where we can afford in timely manner for the activities.

I wish to alert the commission that stake holders are going to mount intense scrutiny on their conduct, this calls for continued transparency in the conduct of your activities” he said.
