A man in Kabale district is in serious trouble after allegedly hacking his colleague in a fit of rage over accusations of adultery with his wife.
Ambrose Tumwekwase, a resident of Mururinda village in Kicumbi parish, Kamuganguzi sub-county, is in custody at Kabale police station pending further investigation.
Tumwekwase is accused of brutally assaulting James Rwekatarira, also known as Rwaka, who resides in the same village. The incident, according to James Kabalemesa, the LC 1 chairperson of Mururinda village, took place on July 9, 2023, at approximately 10:00 PM.
The suspect allegedly caught his wife, Vian Niwamanya, red-handed engaging in sexual activity with Rwekatarira. Overwhelmed by the shocking discovery, Tumwekwase confronted the pair, accusing them of committing the act on his marital bed. He further claimed to have witnessed Niwamanya and Rwekatarira displaying affection toward each other in the nearby trading center just a few hours prior.
He picked a machete and repeatedly struck Rwekatarira on the head and face, resulting in his death. In the midst of the violent attack, Niwamanya managed to escape.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, confirmed that Tumwekwase was arrested on Monday night while in hiding.
