Students of Gulu University set the Main Hall at the Main Campus of the University on fire in protest of the delayed release of last semester’s exam results on Wednesday evening

We’ve been told that the strike was spearheaded  by students from the Faculty of Education and Humanity who were largely affected by late release of the results.

Unfortunately, the Fire department couldn’t reach the scene of the fire in time, the entire building and all property was destroyed. The burnt Main Hall was a multi-purpose building used for lectures and it also had offices.

The University’s Guild President, Robert Mukembo condemned his fellow students for burning down the Main Hall.

“I strongly condemn the act of burning down the building. There are other ways the students could have expressed their dissatisfaction,” Mukembo said.

Meanwhile, Martin Okoyo, the Gulu District Police Commander noted that investigations into the matter are going on and all those students responsible will be arrested and taken to court.

“We are opening an inquiry on the students. It is a criminal case to burn the University hall. We shall arrest all of the one by one and charge them in court,” he said.
