Panic has gripped residents of Mukwanga zone, Buwenge town council, Jinja district after their neighbors, a couple was found dead in a house.
Police is investigating circumstances under which 25- year old Brian Masanka, and his girlfriend, only identified as Susan were found dead in their rented house. The duo’s bodies were discovered lying naked on their bed with blood oozing out of their mouths and noses.
According to Francis Lukwanga the village chairperson, he was called to intervene after a one-year-old baby was heard crying inside the house, the residents were compelled to break the door and on opening it, the two were found dead and their child sitting on the floor crying.
The couple’s landlord Charles Butanakya told police that he heard the couple's baby crying at night and knocked at their door but there was no response, but the village chairperson intervened and broke into the house where they discovered the two were lying dead.
Diana Nandawula, the Kiira region police spokesperson says the couple is suspected to have died of suffocation. A GEF; 10/2018 file has been opened up at Buwenge police station to aid investigations.
"We recovered a saucepan full of maize and a charcoal stove inside the deceased room which was not ventilated and highly suspect that the two died of suffocation, however, a GEF has been opened up to aid our investigations into the matter," Nandawula added.
The deceased were taken to Buwenge health centre IV mortuary for post-mortem.
